How is an AERON/TPU airtube installed?

Installing AERON/TPU airtubes is just as easy as with butyl tubes. Remove the tire bead on one side, insert the inner tube, pump it up slightly (no more than 4 psi), reinstall the tire bead onto the rim, inflate the tire fully and you‘re done. The ease of installing the tire is the great advantage of the TPU inner tube over tubeless systems. Many cyclists shy away from the complicated tubeless installation.

You can find all details for the installation in the USER MANUAL.

Why do AERON/TPU airtubes need to be pumped up carefully at the beginning?

To prevent the tube from pinching, it should be slightly preinflated with a small amount of air (max. 4.3 psi). Overinflating can damage the product, as the tube is made of thermoplastic. As the name suggests, the product deforms plastically under temperature and pressure, which is increased, for example, where more heat is applied to the product by hand. This could result in irreversible blistering.

Can AERON/TPU airtubes be inflated with CO2-cartridges?

Yes, but avoid bending the valve stem of the polymer valves during inflation or directly after. The freezing temperatures involved with CO2 inflation can temporarily increase the risk of valve stem damage.

Can AERON/TPU airtubes be removed and reinstalled in another tire?

Yes, but please note that the air tube deforms and thus takes on the shape of the first rim and tire. It is therefore only possible to refit the air tube if the tire dimensions (wheel diameter and tire width) are the same.

Can I use talcum powder when fitting AERON/TPU airtubes?

The use of talcum powder is not a problem but is also not necessary due to the smooth surface of the air tube.

Can AERON/TPU airtubes be inflated outside the tire?

AERON/TPU airtubes can be carefully inflated outside the tire until it is wrinkle-free and has a round contour. This corresponds to a maximum pressure of 4,3 PSI.

Can AERON/TPU airtubes be fitted with rim tape?

Mounting with rim tape is mandatory, as otherwise sharp-edged spoke nipples or incorrectly deburred rim holes could damage the air tube.
