The Right AERON/TPU Bike Tube for Your Mountain Bike
The mountain bike opens up new paths for you – in the truest sense of the word. You are no longer limited to paved roads, well-prepared bike paths, or gravel tracks. The wide knobby tires and long suspension travel allow you to handle almost any terrain.
A good portion of the comfort and performance comes from the tube inside your bicycle tire – or from the absence of one if you ride tubeless. Here, we show you why an AERON/TPU MTB inner tube is a fantastic alternative not only to the classic butyl tube, but also to tubeless systems.
AERON/TPU MTB inner tubes
MTB – SuperLite Race AL
For mountain bike racers: ultra-light with extra-low rolling resistance. Its extremely compact packing size also makes it the perfect spare inner tube for tubeless riders.
MTB – ExtraLite Protect
Tech for trails: the best balance between puncture protection, low weight, and minimal rolling resistance The ideal choice for mountain bikers. Lighter. Faster. More durable.
What makes an Aeron/TPU tube so good
TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) is a versatile material that offers many advantages. It is significantly lighter than the butyl rubber used in conventional inner tubes and also lighter than many tubeless setups – often even lighter than the sealant alone that you would run in a tubeless system. You can run TPU tubes at lower air pressure than butyl tubes while still maintaining a high level of puncture protection against punctures or pinch flats, so-called snakebites. At the same time, AERON/TPU tubes offer rolling resistance comparable to that of tubeless systems. If your tubeless tire develops a tear that is too large to be sealed with a repair kit, installing a new tube – and riders of mountain bike tubeless systems always have to carry a spare tube – can quickly become a messy job. TPU tubes can also be installed on any rim, which is not possible with tubeless tires. In addition, you do not need a compressor or a special pressure-reservoir pump to seat the tire perfectly on the rim again, which further reduces the amount of equipment required – ideal for long MTB rides or a day at the bike park.
The right Aeron/TPU tube for every rider
We do not offer the Dunlop valve that is still sometimes found on city bikes. The type of valve you need primarily depends on the size of the rim valve hole, while the valve length depends on the rim depth. If you are not sure which size your AERON/TPU tube should be, you can check the size specifications in inches and millimeters on your tire (and your rim) and compare them with the information on the packaging of the AERON/TPU tubes. You can also consult the ETRTO table. It shows you which tube size fits your bike, but it does not use inch measurements—only millimeters. Pay particular attention not only to the rim diameter, but also to the rim and tire width.
Once you have found the right size, you only need to decide how light and how puncture-resistant your tube should be, and whether you want a tube with the best possible rolling resistance or if your focus is less on performance. This primarily depends on the wall thickness of the tube. Depending on the intended use, AERON/TPU offers ultralight race tubes that provide excellent rolling characteristics in addition to their low weight, as well as extremely puncture-resistant tubes designed for long durability even under the toughest conditions. The choice is yours: what weight and what level of protection do you want? We have the right product.
